SDi stands for Serial Digital Interface and was developed for television studio’s to allow them to send high definition ( HD) images from camera’s to recording equipment using the existing coaxial cables ( RG59). It is also being used for the new 4K (4,000P) equipment. This means that you can upgrade to SDi and don’t need to re-cable. HD-SDi is also a more reliable option for new installs as it operates independently from any computer network and there is only one protocol so you’re not limited to a particular manufacturer. Downside is that it's a bit more expensive but your much less likely to have any configuration problems in the long run.
